Episode 2 – Great Brazilian Artists

As the second episode in this written series, today, we will talk about Carolina Maria de Jesus, one of the first black writers in Brazil.

Carolina was born on March 14, 1914 in Minas Gerais, and even after her death on February 13, 1977 she continued to be considered one of the most important writers in the country. In addition to being a writer, she was also a poet and composer, and one of her best-known works was the book Quarto de Despejo: Diário de uma Favelada.

Even without much education, due to the poverty that lived in her surroundings, she became known for her hard diary reports about the cruel reality in the favela.
