Luiz Gonzaga, also known as Rei do Baião, was born on December 13, 1912 and died at the age of 72, on August 2, 89. Gonzaga was a great musician and composer, and in his lyrics he talked about the hard life in the its northeastern hinterland.
He sang with his accordion, triangle and bass drum, and with mastery and happiness he introduced the musical culture of the Northeast to all of Brazil.
His recognition and fame came from some of his songs that became better known: Asa Branca, Juazeiro and Baião de Dois.
Gonzaga is honored and considered to this day one of the most important figures in Brazilian popular music.
